SUNDAY, DEC. 5, 1999 - Ray Connolly, 61, (cq) of Edwardsville holds up his 5-month-old granddaughter, Madison Falgout, so she can hear the song of a bird. She was crying and immediately stopped when a bird sang. The child, who is blind as a result of shaken baby syndrome, loves the sound of the birds singing and the rustling of leaves. Madison is also paralyzed from the waste down, another result of a brutal shaking by her father, Murphy Falgout, 28, who is being jailed as he awaits trial.
